J&K stands at 3rd last position of disproportionate People-Teacher Ratio at Primary, Upper Primary levels, reveal official figures




Srinagar, May 05 (KNO): Among all States and Union Territories of India, Jammu and Kashmir is standing on the 7th and 3rd last position for having the disproportionate Pupil Teacher Ratio (PTR) at Primary and Upper Primary Level respectively.

Besides, the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir is also ranked at 8th last position for having the disproportionate PTR.

However, at Senior Secondary Level, Jammu and Kashmir is at the thirteenth position for having a better PTR.

According to the official figures available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the PTR in Jammu and Kashmir at Primary level is 1:15 followed by 1:9 at Upper Primary Level.

Similarly, at Secondary Level, the Union Territory has a PTR of 1:12.

However, the official figures reveal that at the Senior Secondary level, the PTR was better with a 1:26 ratio.

The figures further reveal that at the Primary Level, Jammu and Kashmir was standing at 30th position out of other 35 states and Union Territories followed by 33rd position at Upper Primary Level, 28th position at Secondary and 13th position at Senior Secondary level.

According to the guidelines of the education department, there should be at least a teacher-pupil ratio of 1:30, a teacher for 30 students—(KNO)
