Modern spinning wheel to yarn pashmina , keep the dying art alive in Kashmir valley keeping the tradition of Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani (RA) alive

Srinagar, June 18 (EK): The word pashm means “wool” in Persian, but in Kashmir, pashm referred to the raw unspun wool of domesticated ‘Changthangi goats’. In Kashmir the [Yender] or spining wheel is a symbol of our glorious heritage art which was introducing by Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani (RA).

“Valley is famous for many things, one of them is ‘Pashmina yarning.’ Modern charkha”to revive declining art in Kashmir. Meet Kashmir’s women who keep ‘yender’ tradition alive.

“I am working here as a instructor since october 2021. I also came here as a trainee but after seeing my work they offered me the job. Now i am teaching many people here,” said Shaista Bilal Wani a woman instructor at Eidgah Srinagar.

Talking about new Handloom [Yender], technology Shaista as per Eternal Kashmir, said that the old spining wheel which we used was not so much comfortable for us. It created massive back problem,but the new spining wheel, is very much comfortable.

“Now, we used foot pedaled spining wheel to yarn pashmina and it is very comfortable for us and due to the new machine more women come forward and joined us,” she said.

“Since the beginning, Kashmir has been the undisputed producer of the Pashmina Shawls from thousands of years. The production and export of Pashmina is an exclusive trade opportunity for the people of Kashmir. From as long as its origin, pashmina shawls are being exported to all over the world,” she said.(Eternal Kashmir)
