Ganderbal: In this digital and sophisticated age where machines have become highly indispensable and imperative to make our lives comfortable, we still find certain people who cling on to traditional ways to earn their livelihood.

As per Kashmir Despatch Correspondent, Mir Wali, 90-year-old, continues to run a water mill for the last 70 years in Sarfrao Syed Pati area Kangan, Ganderbal district to provide a livelihood for his family.

Mir Wali says that he was about 20 years old when he learned to operate a water-run mill. He further said that although a devastating flood in the year 1992 wreaked havoc in the entire area and the mill was also severely damaged he was still able to repair and reactivate the mill in a very short period of time.

Mir Wali’s son said that due to rampant unemployment, he has adopted his father’s profession and has been working with his father on this mill for the past several years.

Now the father-son duo are together keeping this old tradition still alive while trying to earn a dignified livelihood for their family.
